Photography is like meditation for me. I connect with the subject and time becomes meaningless. I happily spend hours getting strange looks from hikers while crawling on the ground just off a trail, getting the lighting just right on the tiny berry perched on an autumn leaf that has gone unnoticed by the rest of the world. There is a hidden beauty unseen by the eye in everything. Bringing this beauty out for the world to see is the joy of photography. This is at the core of my style -- I like for my photographs to be an enhancement and extension of a scene or event that is greater than what the human eye is capable of seeing.
What drives most photographers away from weddings is precisely what pulls me in. I feed on the challenge of creating beautiful images at any time, any place, and in any conditions amidst the chaos of a wedding day. But wait... chaos, meditation... how do the two go hand-in-hand? There is a certain state of zen that comes with being "in the zone" and focusing on what's important, and what's important at your wedding is family and friends. Besides, it's a wedding! Who doesn't love a wedding?!?
... is how my clients describe me. I believe every wedding and portrait session should be fun. I never take myself too seriously and will always be the first to laugh at myself. I also believe creativity is a must for keeping things fun and interesting, otherwise you fall into a boring rut. I am most comfortable in jeans and a t-shirt. My down-to-earth, go-with-the-flow attitude is a must for wedding photography -- it's my job as a professional photographer to make the best of whatever situation I'm in. Dorky? Yes, dorky. I am a nerd by birth and I proudly let that freak flag fly. And yeah, I need a better picture of myself. It's one of life's great ironies that photographers don't have themselves photographed very often...
Here are a few of the vendors I've worked with and can highly recommend. I'm not getting anything out of it other than hopefully being able to work with them again!
SW DJ Entertainment - Pete is a super nice guy who still spins vinyl and keeps the party pumpin'!
A Lil' More Music - Mo and Dee Dee bring a crazy light show and do a great job of keeping things moving smoothly.
BitterSweets - I'm not much of a cake guy (downright un-American, I know), but OH MY GOD Kerry's cupcakes made my eyes roll back in my head!
